The last of the cosmos plucked from a chateau garden, their delicate tendrils and petals caressing a soft background.

Working from observation, often painted en plein air, this is one of a collection of paintings by Eva Stockdale. Fleeting moments of light, landscape, and seasonal change in the French countryside, are reflected in the quiet beauty of fields, wildflowers, fruit and simple rural scenes.

Artist Statement: 

This series was painted during two week-long artist retreats in Normandy in Summer 2024 and the Pays du Loire in Autumn 2025. When one really stops to look, small glimmers of beauty appear everywhere.

These pieces explore the subtle colour of light in rural France: pale blues, muted greens, and warm earth tones that appear as the seasons begin to turn.
